Pickled Gingers is a blog to catalog the culinary adventures of two redheaded gastronauts as they eat, cook, and drink their way through life. Together we’ve eaten at Three Michelin Star Restaurants, a burger shack under a freeway, and enjoyed many meals right in our own home. We don’t describe ourselves as foodies, but more of food enthusiasts.
Together with our Miniature Husky, Tabasco, we search out new foods and old haunts to find the best meal we can.
The first word to ever come out of my mouth was pizza. I looked forward to eating out with my family and ordering the most exotic thing on the menu. After spending many years eating at the chain restaurants of the Northeast, I began to grow my culinary interests. Primarily through watching Top Chef in my teens. The first taste of the true culinary world began when eating at a restaurant called the Left Bank in Buffalo. A bowl of luscious fondue made with exquisite cheese all warmed on the table with a candle underneath, and I was hooked. I wanted more. I had thai food in college, and it’s now my favorite cuisine. With Travis, I finally can let my adventurous platte run wild. Together we can talk about food we are enjoying in an elevated way that has just grown my love of cuisine.
My love affair with food began later in life. I was always a fussy eater. I ate pounds and pounds of macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, and peanut butter and jelly. One fateful trip with some friends family to a sushi shop in high school changed my whole outlook. During college, I began to challenge myself to eat new and different things. The world became my oyster, and I wanted to eat it all. Foie Gras, Offals, Rare Steak, and yes-even Oysters, became my new go to. Through Tracey, I have found new and exciting culinary experience and I am expanding my tastes and palette even further. The weird and crazy is the new norm, and I love it!
